RESUSCITATION

Whether JAFERD or a BAFERD, an emergency physician must be a “jack of all trades and master of resuscitation.” While we may never intimately understand the inpatient and outpatient environments of our consultant colleagues, we must master that nebulous, gray emergent world in between where crashing, undifferentiated patients require a calm mind and a steady hand.

“Jack of all trades, master of resuscitation.”

This section provides concise, relevant information for emergent resuscitationists to utilize in the daily trenches and while sipping coffee later and considering the mysteries of the day. Each page will begin with the Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF), followed by a concise review of the foundational related material. The “Background” section will discuss the nuances and the gray – “the art of medicine.” Occasionally, there will be distilled summaries of emergency medicine paradigms that provide a deeper understanding of our world. As Einstein said,“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” Many of these ideas, concepts, and practices have perplexed me, my goal is to understand them well and explain them simply to those coming behind. Enjoy.
